Entertaining is a type of recreational activity which holds an audience’s interest and holds their attention for a period of time. The earliest form of entertainment is fishing. This was probably the most common way in which people entertained themselves in earlier times. People would set up a stand of some kind on the seashore and cast stones or other items into the water in order to entertain themselves. The early Egyptians were famous for their aquaplaning skills. People would also use hollow bones as flotation devices. Another form of aquatic entertainment was swimming.
Another type of entertainment that developed along with fishing was cockfighting. This was probably not as popular as fishing today, but it was a very common form of entertainment for many groups of people, both at home and in professional arenas. It is easy to see how this word came into existence; it simply described a type of entertainment.

While most forms of entertainment are found in our homes, some entertainments did not originate at home but on ships and were more suited to certain types of ports. One type of maritime entertainment during this time was gambling. Gambling was an important form of entertainment on pirate ships, where a man could be ‘thrown overboard’ if he did not gamble enough. The development of amusement parks brings even more entertainment into the home, while providing amusement for those who would enjoy other forms of entertainment. Keeping up with the latest trends is always fun, and these trends seem to change almost weekly.
